What do the SASSA status words mean?

SUBMITTED, PENDING, APPROVED, DECLINED and more — what each status on your SRD check really means.

When you check your status on srd.sassa.gov.za or by USSD, you'll see one of a few official status words. Here's what each one actually means.

Status What it means
SUBMITTED Your application is loaded in the SASSA system, but the automated checks haven't started yet.
PENDING SASSA is cross-checking your ID against other databases (Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, banks). This usually peaks between the 15th and 25th of the month.
APPROVED You qualify for that month. This does not mean you've been paid — you still need a "Pay Day" date to appear.
DECLINED Your application was rejected for that month. A rejection code will show explaining why.
BANK DETAILS PENDING You're approved in principle, but SASSA doesn't have valid banking details for you yet. Load your bank details on the portal.
SELF-CORRECTION REQUIRED There's a mismatch in your personal or bank information. Log in, fix the mistake, and resubmit.

"Approved" and "Paid" are not the same thing. Keep checking your status until a Pay Day date actually appears.
